IN THIS LESSON
Facilitator Note: Remember that NotebookLM practice you went through in Module 1 to familiarize yourself with the AI tool? Well, that is exactly what you are going to do with your staff.
Teacher Exploration Guide
Step 1: Open the Public Notebook
Access the pre-loaded sandbox here:
What’s Inside:
27 Built-in Sources: Documents explaining exactly how the tool works.
Suggested Starter Questions: Pre-written prompts to help you begin.
Notebook Guide: Automatic summaries and suggested actions.
Studio Outputs: Examples of audio overviews, flashcards, quizzes, and FAQs.
⚠️ Important Safety Note: Today is a sandbox exploration. Do not upload any files. This keeps the focus on noticing the tool's behavior in a secure, pre-made environment.
Step 2: Micro-Missions
Choose 2–3 missions below to guide your journey through the sandbox.
Mission A — The Listener: Click a Studio output (like an Audio Overview). Play it. What stands out to you about the tone or depth?
Mission B — The Skeptic: Pick one source document from the list. Ask the AI a highly specific question tied only to that source. How accurate or helpful is the response?
Mission C — The Creator: Generate a quiz, flashcard set, or study guide. Does the output feel like a useful starting point for teacher planning or student support?
Mission D — The Explorer: Ask one of the suggested starter questions provided in the chat window, then follow up with one original question of your own.
Step 3: Capture Your “I Notice” and “I Wonder”
After your exploration, record your observations using the I Notice / I Wonder protocol. This shifts the focus from "learning a tool" to "evaluating an instructional partner."
I Notice… (Focus on accuracy, tone, citations, usefulness, or limitations)
I Wonder… (Focus on classroom application, student support, or potential time-saving for planning)
Step 4: Group Debrief
Gather with your team to share your findings and ground the experience in real work:
Share: One "I Notice" and one "I Wonder" per person.
Identify: One realistic next step. Use this sentence stem:
“One teacher task this tool could potentially support is...” ________________
